In January 2021, an exiting President Donald Trump commuted the 28-year sentence of ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to time served. That amounted to about eight years.
So, it comes as no surprise that Kilpatrick feels indebted, has endorsed Trump for president and is willing to campaign for him in one form or another.
On Tuesday, the Michigan Republican Party said it's running radio ads in Detroit feature Kilpatrick, who was convicted in 2013 of 24 felonies, the Detroit News reports.
"The Michigan Republican Party released today a radio ad featuring former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick," a statement from the Michigan GOP said. "The radio ad will run on stations throughout the Detroit DMA (designated market area) for the next two weeks."
