People are still scratching their heads, wondering how Detroit Riverfront Conservancy CFO William Smith made off with more than $44 million over a 12-year stretch without anyone noticing.
But that theft comes with great consequence, the latest being this:
The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has dropped plans to build a temporary RiverWalk path linking the eastern and western parts of the trail due because of the stolen funds, Louis Aguilar of the Detroit News reports.
Smith is scheduled to plead guilty in federal court in downtown Detroit next Friday.
