The husband and wife team of Tim Costello and Brigid Beaubien, who own the Midtown Detroit beer shop, 8 Degrees Plato on Cass Avenue, have decided to close next month after more than nine years.
"After countless sleepless nights and anxious days, Brigid and myself have decided to retire from the beer store/beer bar business and close the Detroit location on December 31st, 2024," the Detroit residents posted on Facebook.
"As rewarding as owning and operating the Detroit store is, it is now time to us to move on with our lives. here are still many things that Brigid and myself are looking to accomplish. We had a purchase agreement in place to sell the store that unfortunately fell through recently. So, at this time, we need to move our focus from the store."
The posting went on to say:
"There is no amount of words that can describe the last 9 or so years in Detroit (14 or so in the beer business) but we can honestly say that we cherished everything that you have given us. We are humbled. Not sure what is in the future, but I can say, ‘It’s gonna be alright. We’ll get through this.’"
"With a lump in our throats and tears in our eyes. Tim and Brigid."
