Ex-Dearborn Mayor Jack O'Reilly Dies at 76

John "Jack" O'Reilly Jr., who served as mayor of Dearborn from 2007 to 2021, died Wednesday. He was 76.

O'Reilly's family said he died of natural causes, while surrounded by family and listening to his favorite music and poems, the Detroit News reports.

Before becoming mayor, he served as president of the Dearborn City Council for 17 years, according to his bio posted on the Dearborn Historical Museum website.

He was a graduate of St. Alphonsus High School, the University of Detroit, and Oakland University. 

Devon O'Reilly, the former mayor's son, said on FacebookL

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John B. O'Reilly Jr., who died peacefully on January 1st, 2025, listening to his favorite music and poems while being surrounded by family."
