A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of off-duty Detroit police officer Cameron Richardson, 32, around midnight Saturday, the department announced Monday.
Richardson had beeen with the department for one year.
The suspect, who fled the scene, has yet to be charged and his name has not been released.
Authorities said Richardson had finished his shift and was driving northbound on Hoover around midnight at Greiner Street when he collided with a white van making a left turn, the Detroit News reports. Richardson's vehicle rolled over.
Richardson, a father of two daughters, was a ranger and a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army before joining the department.
