Two people were killed in a four-car crash Sunday afternoon on southbound I-75 near Mack Avenue, just north of downtown Detroit.
Michigan State Police said the accident happened around 3 p.m.
Police said a 58-year-old female driver of a Ford Crown Vic was traveling in the left lane when she struck a Chevy Traverse, which was slowing or had stopped in traffic, causing a chain reaction of crashes.
In all, four cars were involved.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene -- a 50-year-old male passenger from Novi, who was in the 2001 Ford Crown Vic, and a 56-year-old woman from Farmington Hills who was in a 2022 Kia.
Other occupants in the cars suffered minor injuries. In all, there were 10 people in the cars.
The freeway was closed for a while for investigators.
“It is important for all drivers to remember that every time they get behind the wheel they are not only responsible for themselves and their passengers, but others that they share the road with as well.” State Police Lt Mike Shaw said in a statement. “Driving requires all of our attention, all of the time. Driving conditions can change in a split second and if drivers are not paying attention, it can be deadly.”
