A Detroit mom whose two children froze to death in a van in a Greektown parking garage on Feb. 10 has been given a new home free of charge for a year, CBS Detroit reports.

The city of Detroit and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries coordinated to provide the home to Tateona Williams, 29, CBS Detroit reports. The nonprofit owns the property.

"We prepared this house that we own as the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries," CEO and President Dr. Chad Audi told CBS. "We had to fix it, prep it, furnish it, and then give them a good start so they don't have to go one day with no food or being outside at all anymore."

The mother lost her two children, Amillah Currie, 2, and Darnell Currie, 9. Two other children in the van survived.

"I love the house," she told CBS Detroit. This means a lot. This kind of makes me happy," she told CBS Detroit.
