Eight family members and four police officers were hospitalized following a house fire on 10 Mile Road near Middlebelt in Farmington Hills early Tuesday morning, WXYZ reports. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said in a video interview posted on WXYZ's website that the communications section received a frantic call from a woman around 5 a.m. about a fire, which he believes started in one of the bedrooms.

Four police officers entered the home and "made several rescues" of unconscious people. Of the eight family members, three are children.

The victims were taken to a local hospital. The hospitalized residents range in age from 27 years to 5 months. Three of the adults are in serious condition, while the remaining residents are in good condition.

Three of the officers are listed in good condition, and one is in temporary serious condition.

The chief said preliminary indications suggest there were no working smoke alarms in the home.
