Michigan State Police: Trooper Wounded, Suspect Dies in Gunfire Exchange in Detroit

A trooper assigned to the Michigan State Police Auto Theft Team was wounded Monday morning and a suspect was fatally shot during a gunfire exchange in northwest Detroit, according to the Michigan State Police.

The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. near the 20000 block of Murray Hill Street.

During an investigation, a 23-year-old man from Detroit jumped out of a vehicle and started firing at troopers, Michigan State Police said.

The one trooper was hit in the lower back, leg and vest, and one trooper returned fire, killing the suspect, police said.

The wounded trooper was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment where he is listed in serious condition.
