Congressman John James
Nothing like a huge infusion of money to boost a political campaign.
The Detroit News reports that Republican Congressman John James is receiving a $5 million campaign contribution from Dan and Pamella DeVos to support his run for governor in the 2026 election.
The money is being committed to Mission Michigan, a super PAC formed in April by James' supporters, according to The News.
Dan DeVos chairs the family-owned Orlando Magic NBA team and a venture capital firm, the News reports. He is the son of Amway founder Richard DeVos and the brother of former GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos, who is married to Betsy DeVos, the former Secretary of Education.
So far, other Republicans in the race includes Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, former Attorney General Mike Cox and Anthony Hudson.
On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and Genesee Sheriff Chris Swanson are running. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is running as an Independent.
