Teacher and track coach Nathan Lemuel Tedford, 54, of Detroit, is charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old male student at his home last month. He is no longer affiliated with the school.

Tedford was the victim’s teacher and coach at the time of the alleged crime at East English Village Academy on Detroit's east side, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

Authorities allege that on May 29, around 6 p.m., Tedford sexually assaulted the student at his home in the 16000 block of Lenore in Detroit.

Tedford faces two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He was arraigned earlier this week in Detroit’s 36th District Court and was given a $30,000 cash/surety bond and ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18.

On Wednesday, Judge William McConico raised the bond to $50,000 cash/surety and ordered that Tedford have no contact with anyone under 21. A preliminary examination is set for July 3.
