Suspect Arrested in Shooting of 2 Southgate Cops

Jeremiah Christian Kemp, 20, suspected of shooting and wounding two Southgate police officers on Thursday afternoon, has been arrested.

Southgate Public Safety Director Joe Marsh said Kemp was found Thursday night hiding in a nearby apartment, WDIV reports. The officers, who were shot in the leg, are in stable condition.

Marsh said his officers responded to the area around 4 p.m. after receiving a report of a man waving a gun on the second floor of an apartment building in a complex that includes Village on the Park and The Reserve at Southgate apartments, east of I-75 and Dix–Toledo Road.

When officers approached, the suspect opened fire, striking both of them. Kemp then fled on foot.
