Jeremiah Christian Kemp, 20, of Wayne, has been charged in the June 19 shooting and wounding of two Southgate police officers.
At around 6 p.m. on June 19, three Southgate police officers responded to the 13200 block of Village Park Drive, where Kemp was reportedly on the second floor with a handgun.
The officers confronted him in a laundry room, where he opened fire, striking two of the officers in the legs. The third officer was not injured.
After the shooting, Kemp jumped out of a window and fled the area. Around 8 p.m., authorities tracked him down and arrested him.
“This case represents a needless explosion of violence that our law enforcement officials potentially face every time they put on a uniform,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.
Kemp faces three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, one count of discharge of a firearm causing serious impairment, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and seven counts of felony firearm.
