Warren police say they fatally shot a man accused of domestic abuse following a chase into Detroit and a subsequent shootout near Detroit City Airport Tuesday around 3:10 a.m., Fox 2 reports.
Police said they received a 911 call reporting that the man was strangling his girlfriend and had tried to set her home on fire in the 13000 block of Prospect in Warren.
Before officers arrived, the man fled in a Chrysler sedan to Detroit. Warren police caught up with him near McNichols and Van Dyke on the city’s east side, according to Fox 2.
During the car chase, the suspect fired at officers. He later stopped near Castle Avenue and Kenney Street and fled on foot. Police said he continued shooting at officers, who returned fire, Fox 2 reports.
The man was found with a gunshot wound to the head, Fox 2 reports. His girlfriend was not seriously injured.
