Canton Man Charged With Murder in Strangulation Death of His Wife

Michael Shaonan Shen, 30, of Canton, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the strangulation death of his wife, Yu Zhao, 30, on Monday.

Authorities allege that Shen strangled his wife around 1 a.m. at a home in the 200 block of Pinehurst.

Around 3:30 p.m. that day, Canton police officers responded to the home following a report of a person not breathing. Officers found Zhao unresponsive in the bedroom.

Medics transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Shen was arraigned Thursday in Plymouth’s 35th District Court before Judge James Plakas and was remanded to jail.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19.
