At least one tornado, and possibly more, hit mid-afternoon Friday in southwest Michigan, killing four and injuring several others.
Meteorologists were trying to determine if it was a single, long-tracked tornado or multiple tornadoes coming from the same thunderstorm cell, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado had touched down in Union City, which is in Branch and Calhoun counties. There were reports of possible others, the Free Press reported.
The Branch County Sheriff's Office reported three dead and 12 injured, and the Cass County Sheriff's Office reported one dead and several injured, the Free Press reported.
The National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings for Mendon, Sherwood, and Union City around 4:30 p.m., Fox 2 reported. Videos posted on social media showed a tornado moving near Union City.
