An electrical fire broke out Wednesday in the upper levels of Wayne State University's 15-story Macabees Building at 5057 Woodward Avenue, just northern of Warren in Midtown Detroit.
WDIV reports there were no injuries. The cause was not immediately disclosed.
Wayne State University issued an alert at 1:24 p.m. and said the building has been evacuated.
The building houses WSU's administrative offices, communication equipment, retail space, and offices for a number of the university's academic departments.
The building was designed by Albert Kahn.
Update: 11:57 a.m. Thursday -- The Michigan Chronicle reports that a platform outside the 11th floor -- an air handling unit caught fire, and that the tops floors 9-11, suffered water damage.
