The WNBA and NBA Board of Governors on Thursday formally approved WNBA expansion teams in Detroit, Cleveland and Philadelphia.
The Detroit season will start in 2029.
The website Sportico reports Detroit ownership group has raised $325 million to launch the team. That’s more than the reported $250 million expansion fee needed. Gores has a 40 percent stake in the team.
The team will play at Little Caesars Arena where Gores' Pistons play.
