Judge Kahlilia Davis
Former Detroit 36th District Judge Kahlilia Davis, who was suspended from the bench for six year by the Michigan Supreme Court in 2023 for "pervasive misconduct," has been blocked by the Michigan Bureau of Elections from appearing on the August primary ballot.
The determination came after Davis submitted nominating petitions on April 21 to run for one of six open 36th District Court positions in the Aug. 4 primary.
Bureau of Elections Director Jonathan Brater on Thursday notified activist Robert Davis, who had challenged Judge Davis' attempt to be on the ballot, writing:
"The Department had independently determined that Davis was ineligible to appear on the ballot, and so it was unnecessary to consider your challenge," Brater wrote.
In 2024, Robert Davis successfully blocked Judge Davis from being on the ballot in a challenge before the Michigan Court of Claims.
Brater, in his letter to Robert Davis, noted that the “same fact pattern applies” as in the 2024 decision.
