Gov. Whitmer on Mackinac Island
After hinting last fall that she may not run, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer confirmed Thursday in an interview with Fox 2 that she won’t be a presidential candidate.
“I think there will be a robust group of people running for president,” she told Fox 2 anchor Roop Raj, who interviewed her at the Mackinac Policy Conference. “I will not be one of them in 2028.”
Whitmer this year will wrap up her second term. She can’t run for re-election because she is term-limited.
“I want to have impact. I want to do good work, but I’m also looking forward to taking a little bit of a break and thinking about it, not jumping right into something,” Whitmer said.
Whitmer didn’t say anything about running for U.S. Senate or accepting a slot as a vice presidential candidate in 2028.
