Workes at Lover's Lane --a Shop for lingerie, sex toys, romantic gifts -- Want to Unionize For Safety Reasons

Citing safety concerns, Lover's Lane workers at the Plymouth flagship location voted 5-1 earlier this month to join the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), Crain's Detroit Business reports. The shop sells lingerie, sex toys and romantic gifts.

And in Wyoming, outside of Grand Rapids, all five workers at that outlet filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to form a union with the UFCW . The NLRB has scheduled a vote for June 25.

Crain's reports:

The move to unionize the store follows numerous employees expressing safety concerns surrounding a lack of protocol for dealing with customer misbehavior and sexual harassment and lack of support from the corporation, said A.J. Patton, a former manager who was fired “out of nowhere” on June 6, two days after the NLRB issued a notice of election.

A spokesperson for Lover's Lane declined comment to Crain's. The company has 11 shops in Michigan and a total of 37.
