Update: 4:45 p.m. Friday -- Wayne State University has ended the adjunct teaching job of Detroit 36th District Judge Kenneth King, who made national headlines when he had a teenager handcuffed and put in prison garb after she fell asleep in his courtroom, the Detroit Free Press reports.

From Thursday

Latoreya Hill cried when telling WXYZ how horrified she was seeing video of  Detroit 36th District Judge Kenneth King putting her teen daughter Eva Goodman in handcuffs and a jail jumpsuit on Tuesday to punish her for falling asleep in his courtroom.

“Would you want someone to treat your child like that? Would you even treat your child like that," Hill asked.

On Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reported Judge King had been removed temporarily from his docket and ordered to undergo training. The court found he failed to live up to the standard of the court.

Hill is a single mother of two. She said Eva, 16, was signed up for a summer program with the Greening of Detroit and was supposed to be on an educational field trip. She told WXYZ her daughter was falling asleep because they don't have a permanent residence.

King defended his action with WXYZ.

"Do I have any reservations? Do I think I was heavy-handed in what I did? No, I don't, because I'll do whatever it needs to be done to reach these kids and make sure that they don't end up in front of me. That was my own version of scared straight."

Adolph Mongo, host of the podcast "Detroit in Black and White," tells Deadline Detroit he was outraged by the judge's action.

"It's disgraceful. He should have known better. He doesn't treat criminals like that. You never know what's going on in these people's homes."

Mongo said he suspects it will take the teen a while to get over the trauma of such an incident.
