A Detroit man is charged with  setting two women on fire in Detroit on Monday.

Authorities allege that around 6 a.m., Roberto Romero, 66, of Detroit, set a car on fire with two co-workers, 57 and 50, in the 1000 block of W. Grand Blvd, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The women suffered serious burn injures to the upper body, including the head, face, neck, and shoulders, and were listed in serious condition on Tuesday, the Freep reports.

The Freep reports that the suspect was fired for leaving the two women threatening notes at work.

The Freep writes:

Detroit Police Chief James White previously said Romero, 66, believed the two women were responsible for his work problems, so he returned to work at 6 a.m. on Monday, saw the two women sitting in a car, and then doused the car in an accelerant and lit it on fire, along with the women inside, White said.

Romero faces charges of assault with intent to murder, placing offensive substance causing physical injury, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and two counts of felonious assault.
