One person was fatally shot and another seriously wounded Sunday afternoon at a Detroit's Eastern Market after the Detroit Lions game. The area is often used for tailgating on football game days.

Detroit Police Chief James White said at a press conference that a fight broke out at Shed 6 on Riopelle Street around 4:30 p.m., just after the Lions lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field.

The fight dispersed and a few minutes later the fighters reconvened a few feet away.

White said two fighters put their hands up "like they're about to fight each other" when one of them, a man from Oak Park, pulled out a gun and fatally shot one person in his 40s and seriously wounded another in their 20s.

Officers in the area quickly arrested the shooter, he said. It's unclear what triggered the fight. Two guns were recovered from the scene. He said the people involved were likely attending a postgame tailgate party,

"We see it at carnivals, social events, everyone’s gotta have a gun, conflict resolution, lack of de-escalation, it’s just ridiculous," White said.

"Tailgating, drinking and guns don't mix," the chief said. "It's ridiculous. If you're going to fight, then fight. Everyone has to have a gun; it makes them feel tough. And now, we've got two people shot, and one dead, and another suspect who is going to face some serious charges, probably murder."
