Unfortunately the #$!%# Closure of Eastbound I-696 Begins Monday

Yes, if your New Year's resolution was to swear less in 2025, here's a good test.

Starting Monday, the final phase of the Michigan Department of Transportation's "Restore the Reuther" project on I-696 in Metro Detroit begins. That means a lot of inconvenience—and for some of you, more cursing.

The closure will take place on eastbound I-696 from I-75 in Royal Oak to M-10 (Lodge Freeway/Northwestern Highway) in Southfield. The closure is expected to be fully in place by noon on Monday.

Westbound traffic will not be impacted.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured for two years via southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway), eastbound M-8 (Davison Highway), and northbound I-75 back to eastbound I-696, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
