Guy Gordon, a decades-long fixture in Detroit TV and radio who left WJR Radio in April, has returned to the airwaves—this time with a podcast.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Gordon writes:

"Excited to be back in the saddle-- hosting the 'Facts Matter' podcast for the passionately non-partisan Citizen's Research Council of Michigan."

The council researches issues concerning state and local government organization and finance.

"They wanted to bring some energy to" the reports, analysis and research, Gordon tells Deadline Detroit. "They thought that maybe a professional broadcast approach would do that. They've got the analysis, they've got the research, they've got the data all locked in, it's just a matter of making it, maybe a little bit friendlier and digestible, and maybe bring some fun to it."

He said he may do a podcast twice a month for the organization or perhaps even weekly.

In April, Gordon told Deadline Detroit that he was essentially given a take-it-or-leave-it offer: take a 60 percent pay cut and move from the morning show to afternoons—or leave. He says he could have lived with the steep pay cut, but moving to afternoons and taking a pay cut was too much.

"I said, thank you, I will pass on the alternative, and we can agree to terminate the contract," he said in a phone interview with Deadline Detroit in April.  He had been with the station since 2017 and had worked the morning shift since June 2023.

The Citizens Research Council describes itself this way:

The Citizens Research Council of Michigan is a privately funded, not-for-profit public affairs research organization that was founded in 1916.

Since then, the objective of the Research Council has been to provide factual, unbiased, independent information on significant issues concerning state and local government organization and finance. The Research Council believes that the use of this information by policymakers will lead to sound, rational public policy formation in Michigan.
