Retail shops continue to vanish at the Detroit Renaissance Center, which has turned into a ghost town -- all to make way for future development.
The latest departure is the Post Office, which will close at the end of the business day on Jan. 20, the U.S. Postal Service announced. We first saw this reported in the Detroit Free Press.
Retail and P.O Box customers’ mail will be transferred to the George W Young Post Office, 1401 W. Fort St. in Detroit.
Crain's Detroit Business reported last month that General Motors, which has owned the complex since 1996, has notified all tenants — retail, office, food and beverage — that the complex is being emptied, except for the Marriott hotel, and that deals would be reached to get them out.

GM plans to move its official headquarters to Dan Gilbert's Hudson’s Detroit building in early 2026, though truth be told, the real GM headquarters is the Warren Tech Center, where far more key employees are housed.
The automaker and Gilbert’s Bedrock are planning a $1.6 billion redevelopment of the office complex and have secured a $75 million commitment from the Detroit Downtown Development Authority.
