A 19-year-old man drowned after slipping into the Detroit River early Saturday at around 1 a.m.

His body was recovered about nine hours later following a search conducted by the Detroit police dive team, harbor master, and the U.S. Coast Guard, Fox 2 reports.

Detroit police said the man had been hanging out with friends when he decided to climb over the river's protective steel railing and sit on the concrete edge. However, as he was leaving, he slipped, fell into the river, and drifted away, Fox 2 reports.
